Gospel Music and Gospel Awards in Kenya.

What am writing its not out of curiosity but out of concern about the Kenyan gospel industry especially composing and airing of those gospel songs in various media houses. for the past 5 years,the Gospel show has really evolved from zero to something.this has greatly encouraged many new upcoming musician like me to gain courage  because they are assured that their music will reach the targeted audience.apart from these gospel shows ,Gospel music awards have emerged and many have been awarded hence taking there musical calling at high level.
i have a lot of questions in mind in on what is Gospel according to artists,producers or directors? what is the role of gospel music in our societies? do they have an impact or they just entertain its audience?  how should Gospel songs be structured ior what is the characteristic of a gospel song?
when i talk about structure or characteristic of gospel songs i get amazed of the songs we have in this generation of 21st C.according to what i learned from my learned C.R.E teacher,a gospel song should first TEACH or PASS THE INTENDED MESSAGE BEFORE ENTERTAINING AND NOT ENTERTAINING THEN PREACHING OR TEACHING.today its the opposite gospel songs first entertains then preach and you may find some songs have messages that are very ambiguous and vague to understand.most of the songs writers nowadays  aren't writing gospel songs from their hearts but they just wake up and come up with lyrics without requesting for Gods guidance and enlightenment.They don't critically think on the messages they wanna pass to the audience.For example when you listen to  songs by Chris Tomlin,Casting Crowns,Jemimah Thiongo ,Esther Liama ,Esther Wahome ,Sarah K,Gloria Muliro,RosMary Njage,Rose Muhando,Women O f Faith,Maranatha,Don Moen and many more they take time to think on the messages they wanna pass to their audiences.their song uplifts and nourishes its listeners spiritually,they bring them closer to God..Am not saying that the rest of the musicians aren't thinking when writings songs but  several are writing thinking on material purpose and fame they will gain and that's why you see most of them becomes more arrogant and boastful after gaining the fame.
therefore my advice to all gospel musicians who are in the industry and who intends to join the industry is that they should write songs that are preaching first then the bit of entertainment will follow later.they should seek for Gods guidance.Pray and ask God to give you Holy Spirit too guide you through the journey of writing any lyrics of any message that you want to pass through a song..
in conclusion, a Gospel song should have the following purpose and impact to its audience;
            1. to uplift and encourage the Body of Christ in human beings.
            2. to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music in hope of bringing salvation to none-believers.
            3. to entertain Christians and None-Christians alike with positive messages and values.
therefore as i said early Gospel songs should preach and then entertain.Please lets observe on this before composing any song that is to be named Gospel.(The part of music awards shall be coming soon...)
