MC SL

Bio. I am a born again Christian, born in a family of four two sisters and a brother. I was brought up in Nairobi parklands area and partly in Nyahera Kisumu then came back to Nairobi in class four and was brought up in Eastleigh, went to school in OBEDE in kisumu and Zawadi primary in Nairobi respectively. Later on i joined St. Teresa's boy’s sec. Nairobi where i finished in 2009. I then joined KIPS college where I graduated with advanced dip in clearing, forwarding and shipping management. My music journey started in 2006 with a group known as G-BROTHERS, we did an album (UTAKATIFU), In 2013 Antole and I took a break to focus on studies that’s when each started a solo career. I have worked with various producers namely, SHAQUAY (DALANA RECORDS), CHARLES
(HEARTBEAT STUDIO), PAPA EMILE and currently am working with VICKY PONDIS, am also doing a track with a dancehall artiste P-SPICQ. My mission is to bring hope to the people and bring souls to Christ

M.E: So to start off, tell us about yourself briefly. Who you are, where you come from, where you are staying and what you do

MC LS: Am Eliud Ayieko a.k.a MC LS,I come from Kisumu town west a place called Nyahera,I stay in Fedha estate Embakasi, apart from music I work with an Export company as an Export clerk.

M.E: You are a musician, right? What type/genre of music do you do?

MC LS: My style of music, I call it Christian rap.

M.E: You have hinted that apart from music you are working somewhere. That means you don’t do music full time. So how do you balance the two?

MC LS: Music is my passion, and I thank God that the Job i do is flexible and allows me more time to focus more on my music ministry and with that am able to give my best in both.

M.E: Kindly tell us, when did you start music, for how long have been in music and why gospel?

MC LS: It all started in 2006 when i was in high school, but professionally i have done music for 2 years that's 2013 to date, what motivated me to do Gospel music is my childhood back, I was brought up in a Christian family and my mum insisted on us living a Christian life and that is why my music is based in Christianity what I grew up believing in.

M.E: What can you say about your journey/life as a gospel artiste? are you living your dream or is music what you wanted to do?

MC LS: Music is what I’ve always wanted to do and grateful that am in this path and forging ahead strongly.

M.E: What are some of the ethics that define you as a gospel artiste?

MC LS: My belief in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

M.E: What drives you as a gospel artiste? Your inspiration, motivation, and generally in song writing?

MC LS: My writing is inspired by experiences I have gone through in life and what other people undergo daily and mostly the Biblical teachings, my motivation is the promise that I will see the kingdom of God one day.

M.E: As gospel artiste and as a young man, what are some of your greatest challenges?

MC LS: Temptation in various aspects is the greatest of all challenges I face but I do my best to stay true to my faith in Christ.

M.E:  We have crop of singers who claim that they are doing newskul gospel kind of music, but the society is disputing that. Apparently some people feel like we should stick to the old of doing music. In song writing and the beats that are being used. What is your take on this?
MC LS: It’s true that is happening, my take is that we should not borrow anything from the secular world like using beats that have been used in the secular industry and try to be original.....reason why they borrow from secular is because many have forgotten the sole purpose of gospel and are going for fame and money which is very sad since no positive impact achieved.
M.E: The far you have come, what is that one thing that you always thank God for? What have you achieved as an artiste?
MC LS: I thank God for his faithfulness, because at one point I had to go back in the rural area when life gave me a sent back and within 7 months of setback God brought me back to the city through this music and opened doors for me like college opportunity, He took me from grass to Grace.
M.E: Tells us about the whole concept of mentor ship. Why or is it important to have a mentor? And do you have a mentor?
MC LS: Yes I do have a mentor, and the importance of having a mentor is that it develops an artiste as a whole, he/she will help you know how to handle issues when they come your way e.g they help you develop a mind of how to handle fame and money that moment it sets in and how to remain humble as an artiste.
M.E: Music production and its quality to be precise is a very tricky aspect of one’s career and as you know the expectations are up there and the bar as well has been set at a higher level, quality production wise, are you satisfied by the way your music has been produced so far?
MC LS: Before I was never satisfied but from the track I did this year BAWA which was produced by Vicky Pondis the production quality is good just wait for the master copy beginning of next week...I can say now am satisfied with the production work.
M.E: Uprising artistes go through a hard time, finding money to record their art. This makes some opt for cheap producers who end up producing shoddy works which leave the young lads angry and some even quit. What do you have to say to artistes and these producers?
MC LS: For uprising artistes its quite a hill getting money to record a single but it all depends on whom you put your trust in, as for me I had always trusted in God and He did awesome stuff in my life so money is not the main thing...as long as you have a dream God is always there to provide. If they save whatever little they get towards their production works no producer will refuse to give them a deal out of their hard work.
M.E: Money, fame, and relationships are most dreaded things that can determine the success or downfall of anyone if not handled well, musicians are the most affected by this because they bring about pride. What can you say about them all?
MC LS: Money helps in bringing our dreams and visions into reality but also money is the route of all evil if not managed well. Fame is that moment when everybody knows about you through media and so on and that's what many artistes thrive for nowadays yet that's not the main aim of the ministry, as for relationship to remain good between artiste and his/her friends it takes a lot because when fame sets in then pride takes over and you tend to bring new friends on board and forget those who walked with you when you started which is not good..What i can pray for is that God should help us to stay humble at all times.
M.E: What’s your final say to uprising artistes and the music industry at large?
MC LS: What I can say to the upcoming artiste and established artistes in the Gospel industry is to produce relevant music lyrics wise that can help bring hope to the hopeless and restore peace to the broken homes and win souls for Christ and mostly that they remain humble at all cost.
M.E:  What can we expect from you in the next five or so years?
MC LS: Expect great things in the next five years, am working with some artistes and partners to ensure that we kick start some projects that will help the community at large and mostly young and talented youths and let me not say it now but i will rather let actions speak for itself in five years time.
M.E: Any other partying shot. Any word to your fans?
MC LS: Let’s seek first his kingdom and whatever desire we have shall be fulfilled.....keep it locked to Mulika entertainment great music coming.
M.E: Thank you for your precious time we are grateful sir. Thank you for coming along. All the best in your journey and may God favor your ways.
