MSANII IBUKA. MEET MC LS,A NAIROBI BASED GOSPEL ARTISTE.

For our MSANII IBUKA this week,we feature a Nairobi gospel artiste by the name ELIUD AYIEKO and stage name MC SL. Below is a small autobiography as given out by him.

MC SL

Bio. I am a born again Christian, born in a family of four two sisters and a brother. I was brought up in Nairobi parklands area and partly in Nyahera Kisumu then came back to Nairobi in class four and was brought up in Eastleigh, went to school in OBEDE in kisumu and Zawadi primary in Nairobi respectively. Later on i joined St. Teresa's boy’s sec. Nairobi where i finished in 2009. I then joined KIPS college where I graduated with advanced dip in clearing, forwarding and shipping management. My music journey started in 2006 with a group known as G-BROTHERS, we did an album (UTAKATIFU), In 2013 Antole and I took a break to focus on studies that’s when each started a solo career. I have worked with various producers namely, SHAQUAY (DALANA RECORDS), CHARLES
(HEARTBEAT STUDIO), PAPA EMILE and currently am working with VICKY PONDIS, am also doing a track with a dancehall artiste P-SPICQ. My mission is to bring hope to the people and bring souls to Christ

M.E: So to start off, tell us about yourself briefly. Who you are, where you come from, where you are staying and what you do

MC LS: Am Eliud Ayieko a.k.a MC LS,I come from Kisumu town west a place called Nyahera,I stay in Fedha estate Embakasi, apart from music I work with an Export company as an Export clerk.

M.E: You are a musician, right? What type/genre of music do you do?

MC LS: My style of music, I call it Christian rap.

M.E: You have hinted that apart from music you are working somewhere. That means you don’t do music full time. So how do you balance the two?

MC LS: Music is my passion, and I thank God that the Job i do is flexible and allows me more time to focus more on my music ministry and with that am able to give my best in both.

M.E: Kindly tell us, when did you start music, for how long have been in music and why gospel?

MC LS: It all started in 2006 when i was in high school, but professionally i have done music for 2 years that's 2013 to date, what motivated me to do Gospel music is my childhood back, I was brought up in a Christian family and my mum insisted on us living a Christian life and that is why my music is based in Christianity what I grew up believing in.

M.E: What can you say about your journey/life as a gospel artiste? are you living your dream or is music what you wanted to do?

MC LS: Music is what I’ve always wanted to do and grateful that am in this path and forging ahead strongly.

M.E: What are some of the ethics that define you as a gospel artiste?

MC LS: My belief in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

M.E: What drives you as a gospel artiste? Your inspiration, motivation, and generally in song writing?

MC LS: My writing is inspired by experiences I have gone through in life and what other people undergo daily and mostly the Biblical teachings, my motivation is the promise that I will see the kingdom of God one day.

M.E: As gospel artiste and as a young man, what are some of your greatest challenges?

MC LS: Temptation in various aspects is the greatest of all challenges I face but I do my best to stay true to my faith in Christ.

M.E:  We have crop of singers who claim that they are doing newskul gospel kind of music, but the society is disputing that. Apparently some people feel like we should stick to the old of doing music. In song writing and the beats that are being used. What is your take on this?
MC LS: It’s true that is happening, my take is that we should not borrow anything from the secular world like using beats that have been used in the secular industry and try to be original.....reason why they borrow from secular is because many have forgotten the sole purpose of gospel and are going for fame and money which is very sad since no positive impact achieved.
M.E: The far you have come, what is that one thing that you always thank God for? What have you achieved as an artiste?
MC LS: I thank God for his faithfulness, because at one point I had to go back in the rural area when life gave me a sent back and within 7 months of setback God brought me back to the city through this music and opened doors for me like college opportunity, He took me from grass to Grace.
M.E: Tells us about the whole concept of mentor ship. Why or is it important to have a mentor? And do you have a mentor?
MC LS: Yes I do have a mentor, and the importance of having a mentor is that it develops an artiste as a whole, he/she will help you know how to handle issues when they come your way e.g they help you develop a mind of how to handle fame and money that moment it sets in and how to remain humble as an artiste.
M.E: Music production and its quality to be precise is a very tricky aspect of one’s career and as you know the expectations are up there and the bar as well has been set at a higher level, quality production wise, are you satisfied by the way your music has been produced so far?
MC LS: Before I was never satisfied but from the track I did this year BAWA which was produced by Vicky Pondis the production quality is good just wait for the master copy beginning of next week...I can say now am satisfied with the production work.
M.E: Uprising artistes go through a hard time, finding money to record their art. This makes some opt for cheap producers who end up producing shoddy works which leave the young lads angry and some even quit. What do you have to say to artistes and these producers?
MC LS: For uprising artistes its quite a hill getting money to record a single but it all depends on whom you put your trust in, as for me I had always trusted in God and He did awesome stuff in my life so money is not the main thing...as long as you have a dream God is always there to provide. If they save whatever little they get towards their production works no producer will refuse to give them a deal out of their hard work.
M.E: Money, fame, and relationships are most dreaded things that can determine the success or downfall of anyone if not handled well, musicians are the most affected by this because they bring about pride. What can you say about them all?
MC LS: Money helps in bringing our dreams and visions into reality but also money is the route of all evil if not managed well. Fame is that moment when everybody knows about you through media and so on and that's what many artistes thrive for nowadays yet that's not the main aim of the ministry, as for relationship to remain good between artiste and his/her friends it takes a lot because when fame sets in then pride takes over and you tend to bring new friends on board and forget those who walked with you when you started which is not good..What i can pray for is that God should help us to stay humble at all times.
M.E: What’s your final say to uprising artistes and the music industry at large?
MC LS: What I can say to the upcoming artiste and established artistes in the Gospel industry is to produce relevant music lyrics wise that can help bring hope to the hopeless and restore peace to the broken homes and win souls for Christ and mostly that they remain humble at all cost.
M.E:  What can we expect from you in the next five or so years?
MC LS: Expect great things in the next five years, am working with some artistes and partners to ensure that we kick start some projects that will help the community at large and mostly young and talented youths and let me not say it now but i will rather let actions speak for itself in five years time.
M.E: Any other partying shot. Any word to your fans?
MC LS: Let’s seek first his kingdom and whatever desire we have shall be fulfilled.....keep it locked to Mulika entertainment great music coming.
M.E: Thank you for your precious time we are grateful sir. Thank you for coming along. All the best in your journey and may God favor your ways.
MC LS: Amen thanks a lot for hosting me am humbled with this honour.
M.E: It’s our pleasure too. Catch it this Friday unless otherwise. Nice evening.
MC LS: Am grateful Baraka.

This is one project in which mc ls was part of.( G-Brothers)

TESTIMONY WEDNESDAY: GOSPEL MUSICIAN P-SPICQ TELLS HIS LIFE TESTIMONY.

MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT launched a life testimony segment a few days ago dubbed testimony Wednesday that is basically made to tell someone’s life testimony. We believe in one thing that through this, one may be inspired and challenged to continue doing what they love most. In this segment, we get a born again person who takes us through their journey of life and what they have been up to as far life or ministry are concerned. We tell the testimony as we have received from the owner.

Now for this week’s Testimony Wednesday, we feature a gospel artiste going by the name P-Spicq who takes us though his life testimony from when he was born in Nairobi some years back, his education life, his life as a kiambiu hustler, His journey as a musician and now what God has done for him. P-spicq has sat with some of the most influential music producers and singers ranging from Bizi B to simbo owade. After reading this you will notice that faith in God and self believe is all what you want in life. It’s a life transforming and inspiring life.  Read and be transformed.

Real Name :      PIUS OBUOGA OTIENO
Stage Name :     P-Spicq (Pronounced as [P- Speak])
Age :                  29 Years
Occupation:       Gospel artiste
Status:                Married

BACKGROUND

I was born in Nairobi’s Mater Hospital on the 16th of February 1986 being the first born in a family of 7 siblings, five boys and two girls. I joined Dr Livingstone Primary School in 1993 and studied from class 1 to 7 and was later transferred to St John Boarding primary School in Maua, Meru in 2000 where I repeated class 7 and later completed my KCPE in 2001.
I got a calling letter to Join Kathiani Boys High School in Machakos County in 2002.

There I met a lot of friends and very few enemies, friends who inspired me musically and academically and enemies who hated me based on my ethnic background. In 2003 third term the school staffroom was set on fire before our third term exams which led to indefinite closure of the school. In 2004 March I was again transferred to MALIERA Boys Secondary School in Yala, Gem Constituency. At this time Music was very much in my head, and tried as much as possible to balance my education and my talent. I did my KCSE exams in the year 2006. I joined the Nairobi Aviation College in 2011 to study a Diploma in Computerized Clearing and Forwarding as a part time student but in the mid 2012 I Dropped due to lack of fees.
For over one year I earned a salary of 3000 shillings monthly which was not enough to sustain a man for a month. At that time I was living with my two brothers in a one roomed “Mabati” house in Kiambiu. Life was unbearable and I could only afford one meal a day, and could sometimes ‘doea’ at my mum’s place when am so broke. I had one pair of trousers and two t-shirts and ‘AKALA’ shoes. Over the years I trusted God for success in my life and it comes with his plans. Over the years, I was able to manage all challenges that came forth. I got married in 2011 and I have a 4 months son. Right now am balancing my work, Family and Music. Very soon before the end of this year, I will be starting school again, God willing.

THE MUSICAL JOURNEY:

My musical life begun way back in class seven, while in Dr. Livingstone Primary School. I could use any available thing like basins, sufurias, the table and many more to make sounds and sing along when my parents were not at home. At that point I didn’t know how to write songs so I could sing it the way it would come. While in Meru, I started writing my own songs and poems and would later present them during entertainment nights in the school and school functions. In form one in Kathiani Boys High School, that’s when I started realizing my talent to the fullest as the school administration dedicated some days for the realization of talents. I joined the C.U and would sometimes be given the chance to sing during church services.
It’s in that same school where I sat in the same class with Bizi B (Producer), Job Vidzo (Cabassa Group), Simbo Owade, Victor Vicky Pondis (Producer), Mzee Mzima and many other artists. The school band played a major role in molding our music careers. Bizi B was my desk mate and would help me in any area musically. And that gave me more courage to write my own songs and sing in large crowds. After the fire incident we parted ways with Bizi B and others as I would come to learn that many of us were transferred to different schools.
In my new school, things were a little different, music talents were not taken seriously by the administration and the school board. A lot of music talents were being wasted but kept on tight to mine. A year later a Peer Advocate for Life Skills “PALS Club” was formed, and with my talent I joined and composed songs to teach other on Life matters like Aids Awareness and Abstinence from early sex. I was then appointed the Club Chairman which I chaired till form four. A lot changed in the school with time and many were motivated with my songs including teachers and other board members.
After high school I met Bizi B in town (NAIROBI) and we exchanged contacts, later on we met and recorded my first ever song in his East Africa Records back then. At that time I was staying in Eastleigh, and would later on meet other aspiring artists and write songs.
I met a Group called G-Brothers comprising of Benachi, Mc LS and The late Antole and a dancehall artist called Raj Deqan with whom we wrote a couple of songs but never recorded any. I can say that my musical journey has been moving on gradually and all is because of the plans and the Grace of God who is my biggest planner and motivator. I have done a couple of songs both solo and as collabos. I recently did a collabo with my brother De-Coin and some friends I have been working with and plans for a video are underway and I’m also working on a track with MC LS. A Lot of projects are planned for 2015 and all that will be done as per the plans of God.

ABOUT MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT. THE GENESIS, AIM, MISSION AND THE BIG VISION.

ABOUT MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT.
THE GENESIS, AIM, MISSION AND THE BIG VISION.
“Be the change you want to see”
MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT is an online platform (blog) that was launched in June the year 2012 with an aim of sensitizing the youth on real life issues. Initially the blog was called MULIKA MAYUTS but with time, Fred, who is the blog C.E.O decided to change the name from MULIKA MAYUTS TO MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT as he was targeting to achieve something great. This blog aims among other things to reach the youth and support them with the necessary information they need as far as achieving their goals in life is concerned.

MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT is an entertainment and Media Company that deals mostly with entertainment issues and what is happening in the society. We highlight whatever is happening in the entertainment scene and the society at large. More so we really believe in talents. That’s why in MULIKA we are focusing so much in discovering, nurturing, supporting, promoting and exposing Talents cutting across gospel music ministry and arts in general. We are calling on all musicians, poets, actors, writer’s video directors, audio producers, events promoters, managers and all stake holders in the music industry to join hands with us as we look forward to achieving our goals and mission, which is to ensure that no talent goes into waste when we are around. Last month, we introduced a brand new segment dubbed MSANII IBUKA that is basically meant for conducting interviews and publishing them each and every Friday. So far, we have interviewed great people, featured stories that have inspired people in one way or another.  In addition, MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT added another segment dubbed testimony Wednesday, where we tell someone’s life testimony. We tell your story as far as your life and what you do is concerned. All are welcome to be part and parcel of this ultimate great vision. Let’s make is a reality and let’s make it a trend in Kenya to be supporting talent the best way we can. By so doing i believe and it’s my faith and hope that we will raise a generation that will have a positive impact in our society. And we do all business online, we have no offices, as at now our offices are the online platforms we have namely our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mulika-Entertainment/1585010875069474?ref=hl
my facebook account https://www.facebook.com/freddy.h.ricky
my twitter account https://twitter.com/Holysan_cityboy
our email address mulikaentertainment@gmail.com
our office number 0716562394
It’s all about our society, it’s about my society. I came to realize if you want to see change, then you have to be the change that you want to see. Change is inevitable and it has to start with you and me. That’s why our slogan and tagline is, ‘BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE’. That is us, and what we faithfully believe in. For us to have an empowered society, then we have to empower the youth first by supporting, promoting and encouraging them to pursue their dreams especially in talents. Talent is only wasted if nothing is done to it.
We saw a gap in the society and kept on wondering why there is no one to fill the gap. Then we discovered that everybody was doing their own things, as a result we had to step in and fill the gap.
As an individual I love supporting talent because I once looked and prayed so hard for someone who will help me achieve my dreams of recording and producing my music. No one was there for me. I seriously wanted to achieve and realize my dreams, I was desperate and I wanted to succeed badly, unfortunately I could not do that. I lacked information, I lacked direction and I was there with my passion for music and great ambitions helpless waiting for God to open doors. He really did open doors for me, and I recorded my music.
I am so much into this thing because I want to do to others what I never got from anyone.
NO ONE IS PAYING ME TO DO THIS.
I want to help someone to achieve something one day.
Am just being the change I want to see in my society.
MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT, SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING TALENT THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE.
BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE.

I RECORDED MY FIRST SONG FROM MY MJENGO WAGES. JAFAR SILVERBOY

I am a firm believer that talent is one of greatest gifts one can get from God. I personally believe in talent and it is for this reason that today am running this program called msanii ibuka on my blog MULIKA ENTERTAINMENT. I like supporting talent the best way I can and that’s why am investing my time on this. No pay tho.
Well it’s our habit and a trend we like so much and that is getting uprising artistes, interview them then publish the interviews on our online blog. By so doing we believe that these artistes will get exposed and get the morale to pursue their dreams in this industry. It’s all about motivation, encouragement and support.

For our msanii ibuka this week, we feature JAFAR SILVERBOY a Nairobi based uprising artiste. It was an emotional conversation as the musician narrated to us how difficult and hard life was after losing his parents. JAFAR tells us how he lived his life in Mombasa and Nairobi,in the hands of his sister, their neighbor and also with his uncle, his education moments where he was forced to drop out of school for some time while in form two, got to do odds jobs to raise money that enabled him to complete his high school education as a private student and how passion for music made him do some mjengo hustle to record his first song.Today he has recorded several tracks and you can get his song njoo on youtube. This one will inspire you big time.

Writes FRED NZOMO
Read and enjoy.

MULIKA:  Thank you for accepting our invite sir. And coming on for the interview. So can you briefly tell us about yourself?

SILVERBOY: It’s my honor. Am JAFAR NYONGESA the last born from a family of three. Am from western Kenya but grew up in Mombasa and Nairobi under different guardians due to the loss of both my dad and mum at the age of three.

MULIKA: Sorry for the untimely demise of your parents. When was this and how was your life without parents. What did you go through in their absence?

SILVERBOY: That was back in 1997. Life without parents!!! What hell of a life!? Not having them closer really made my life miserable. I endured difficulties in learning Eating, clothing and everything one gets when having parents.

MULIKA: Let’s talk about your education and upbringing for a moment. Tell us about it.

SILVERBOY: I went to Bamburi primary school in Mombasa. Then later joined Sihilila R.C School. hahahaa a weird name huh!? In western, under a neighbor’s care whom we were not in any way related. There is where I did my KCPE. Due to my excellent performance, my uncle offered to take me to a secondary school. I joined Kamukunji Sec. Earlier before being taken care of by a neighbor; I used to stay with my sister who by then was married though young due to lack of support. I studied at kamu secondary up to form 2 only for Dramas from my uncle's wife to start. I was forced to drop out of school and start hustling for myself. I did Mjengo for quiet a time then used my primary cert to look for a job. I got one as a Watchman at the age of 18 and worked at night only to do my KCSE as a Private Candidate.

MULIKA: Let’s talk about what you are doing at the moment. Music. When did you get into music and why?

SILVERBOY: I started singing at a tender age. I realized I could sing when I found myself remixing Mbona umeniacha by Mr.Nice. I was good in singing along and from there I found myself writing my songs. I Had Passion for singing and I Felt I Should do something to remember my parents and that’s how I became Msanii. I went on Practicing only to record my first single Known as All I need, at Grandpa Records from my Mjengo Wages back in 2012. hahaa why!!?? It’s because I love music n it’s the only way to tell what I went through. n talk of difficult life, I do music as a result of what I through.

MULIKA: From your own point of view, how has your journey as a musician been? The challenges and how you have been working them out to this far.

SILVERBOY: Actually music isn’t a joke n it’s a long journey which needs patience. In music you spent money which means u need to work extra hard. There are so many challenges in music like being discouraged, not having capital and lacking support. I have come across many others being played by those you entrust your carrier with [producers, promoters, managers] but I never gave up all I did was giving god first rank, working hard and believing in myself no matter what. Prayers, hope n hard work!-

MULIKA: In relation to the above statement what do you think is the biggest problem facing Kenyan young artistes and how can it be avoided or dealt with?

SILVERBOY: First, all young artists out there should come up with relevant ideas. And also shouldn’t force time coz it will never fall into their schedules. The biggest problem facing our young artist is lack of publicity and mentorship. Salute to MULIKA ENT. If they had a publicity platform as such, things wouldn’t be worse for them. Also upcoming artistes should keep it in their minds that, a talent is an inborn ability which never runs out of time. So they compose themselves n work hard as they move towards god's time. Don’t rush. Do music out of passion not for money.

MULIKA: Music production is one sensitive thing that determines whether your song will be good or not. This far, are you satisfied by how your stuff have been produced?

SILVERBOY: To be frank am not especially with how my first two songs were done for me. It’s hurting for someone to tell you. You played your part well but the producer failed you! But am not complaining coz my third production is satisfying. Having a caring producer who doesn’t take you for just a customer is most important.

MULIKA: And as you have said, we have a crop of producers who are incompetent and are taking the young innocent artistes just for customers. Your word for these artistes and these wannabe producers as well.

SILVERBOY: For Artistes, just as you need a business plan to start business, it’s the same way you need to have a proper preparation before booking a session. Have a good background of a producer you wanna work with. Producers, if am praised for a job well done, you are also praised so make a product that earns u respect n more artistes.

MULIKA: The media has been criticized by a majority of Kenyan artistes for playing a lot of foreign content. on the other hand, the media has defended itself by saying that they play what fans are asking for and also alleges that Kenyan artistes are 'lazy' and that they are not working hard to produce good music. Who is being honest here? And do you think the media is doing enough to our homegrown artistes?

SILVERBOY: The media is true but its part of the reason why Kenyan talent is dying. We cannot be Americans coz even we try; we will always be number 2. I once took my track to a certain channel only to be told for my track to be played the whole week, I need to pay 1500. For god sake who pays them to play internationals!!? Fresh and good stuff is down there. Let them give the upcoming a chance and they will be proved wrong. Even though, laumu mwehu na ulaumu kifaranga pia. Artists, how do you expect your video to be played when the song is on drugs n video on love!! The media isn’t doing enough neither are artistes doing enough to attract the media

MULIKA : So who should do what?

SILVERBOY: Artistes should do what’s considered good enough by media n media should realize charity begins at home n also you blame as you correct not by avoiding!!

MULIKA: This far, what is that one thing that you have done that makes you proud of yourself? Achievements and how many projects have you done so far?

SILVERBOY: Am proud of myself for being a considered a good script and song writer. I wrote a song called madeni for a guy called monaz and a script for neno la bwana by kizo b which is doing good. So far I have 4 track namely all I need, maisha mapambano, njoo whose video is on youtube and kazi yangu.

MULIKA:  That’s absolutely credible man. So what’s your future plans for your music career and life.

SILVERBOY: Be a Recommendable Songs and Scripts Writer, an International Artist and a Mentor.

MULIKA: Family wise? Anything on the ring finger?

SILVERBOY:  Hahahaaa Not Yet. Got a dream! And it’s until it becomes reality first.

MULIKA: We appreciate and thank you so much for your time. Any partying shot?

SILVERBOY: Thanks a lot. Msanii mwenye akili timamu huchonga maneno yanayo leta fahamu.! Usikonde wala kujitia kitanzi kwani Bwana Yupo. Mfanye Mpenzi, andika Barua ya Mapenzi Ukijua Si Kipofu atatuma Msaidizi

MULIKA: It’s always our pleasure and it was great having you.

SILVERBOY: Thanks a lot for hosting me here man. May you be blessed for the great job you are doing. Finding potential in upcoming artist’s n nurturing them is no joke. Thanks a lot and salute to the entire MULIKA ENT CREW. For my fans, one love!! Dream big, achieve big!
