This week on MSANII IBUKA we feature a baringo based gospel artiste riding high with his new song regret. He takes us through his life, salvation and his musical journey and also shares with us his future plans. This one is going to inspire you.

MULIKA: Thank you for coming over for our MSANII IBUKA segment this week. So  begin, tell us about you.

KENFRY KEN: My name is Ken Ngetich currently known as Kenfry Ken.I was born in the year 1994 1st May in Saos Kibias Location in Baringo County Eldama Ravine, a sixth born in a family of nine. I joined Maji Mazuri Forest Primary School and thereafter Rosoga High School in the year 2010. I became a leader in various positions in school including project coordinator in Christian union, choir master, secretary and instrumental master. I also became a leader of music and debating club. After my high school I was posted to Maji Mazuri Forest Primary School, my former school as PTA teacher where am currently working. I therefore joined music in the year 2014 after recording my 1st known song by the name 'Regret’. It’s really my passion and what i treasure most in life.

MULIKA: You are a gospel artiste, tell about your salvation.

KENFRY KEN: I am a gospel artiste. I got born again in the year 2009 while in class 8 and became serious in gospel.

MULIKA: In class 8 u were barely a teen, what lead you or made you get saved?

KENFRY KEN: It was one of the hardest times indeed when my beloved sister was overpowered by some spirits and at the same time the exams were around. It was then that I realized that if not for salvation nothing can work. That is when I took a quick decision, and got saved.

MULIKA: How has life been as a young born again minister?

KENFRY KEN:  There are always challenges..Especially coping with my fellow youths. Some are not interested in the progress but all in all it’s about being committed to it no matter the case.
Music is now my part. I have a verse that touches me a lot and keeps me in real gospel world from 1st Timothy 12:1,that do not let anyone look down upon you because you are young but be an example to others in speech, love, faith and purity. This verse keeps me always right in my Christianity.

MULIKA: Talking about music, when did you discover your talent in music? And when did u start recording officially?

KENFRY KEN: I started recording my music last year in July
I discovered my talent as soon as I joined my form one. I joined choir in the Christian union, and after sometime I realized something was happening to me. I became a music lover of which I ended up being elected as a choir master in form 2.My passion in music grew as I was also elected in school to be a music festival leader. Due to financial problems while in school I was unable to record them though I had a number of written songs. After school I got a small job and started saving until in July 2014 when I recorded my first song, that is Regret.

MULIKA: How can you define ken ngetich. What kind of a person is ken ngetich?

KENFRY KEN: Is a proud guy, proud of my name. Someone of great expectations in life, a disciplined and more principled man.

MULIKA: What is your biggest ambition ever and is your passion only in music or there are some things you would want to do in life?

KENFRY KEN: My biggest ambition is to strive in music, unleash the potential, save lives of my fellow youth and young generation. Apart from music, I specialize in writings including poems, literature & plays.

MULIKA: So is music what you have always wanted to do in life? Or is it a side hustle?

KENFRY KEN: Music is in me and that is exactly what i aim most in life, it’s my biggest lifetime talent, it’s not a hustle.

MULIKA: Talk about your stage name. Where, when, why and how did you get it? What does it mean?

KENFRY KEN: My stage name 'Kenfry Ken' came while I was in my high school. My school mates branded me that name in the fact that I used to like English most. Instead they gave me names that were seemed alike and I decided that I should extend this to my music. The name Ken means a bold leader.

MULIKA: Ken take us through your normal day from when you wake up in the morning till when you go back to your bed in the evening? How is your normal day?

KENFRY KEN: Ok, am always busy..Waking up as early as 5.45am, going for a work that is teaching. I’ve both done a combination. I always do teaching as from 8 in the morning to 3pm.later resume to my own activities as from 4pm including composing music and writing books. From then is when i take supper at 9Pm then engage in some activities up to 10pm.This is my actual sleeping time.

MULIKA: Now back to your music, how was the reception of your first song? And are you satisfied with the production quality?

KENFRY KEN:  It was really a fantastic one. People liked it as it came out. The quality itself is moving mean a high quality one. Am fully satisfied.

MULIKA: Has it gotten any media airplay and if yes where?

KENFRY KEN: Yeah. In a local radio station called Kass fm& nation fm.

MULIKA: Do you have a personal mentor? And what is the importance of a mentor?

KENFRY KEN: Yes. My music mentor is Kenny Rodgers. A mentor is someone, either attracted on his way of carriage, also a guider .the importance is that when a mentor share, indeed says less but talks more.

MULIKA: Some emerging young Kenyan gospel artistes are so much into bongo gospel type of music. Apparently the only gospel in their songs is rabuka or maulana. What’s your take on the whole issue of this bongo gospel craze?

KENFRY KEN: To comment on this think most of them like it coz it’s the known title but for me, persons defer, passion defer, talents defer.

MULIKA: How can you define your style of music?

KENFRY KEN: it’s a new Kenyan gospel style. An upcoming one.

MULIKA: what are you planning to do for your society? We have young talented boys and girls out here that got no means to record their songs .How can you help them as a means of giving back to the society?

KENFRY KEN: It’s my greatest future’s know many youth are there with great talents. I have a future that I should at least help my fellow youth not even from my fraternity but even countrywide.

MULIKA: What’s that one thing that you would like to tell your fellow gospel musicians out there?

KENFRY KEN That in anything u do in music part, make sure that it adds value to ur surrounding people.

MULIKA: Are you seeing someone?

KENFRY KEN: ooh no.I mean some musicians usually sings for pleasure of which its ok. lets try to sing what inspires.

MULIKA: where can people get your songs and what is your final word to your fans, what should they expect from you this year?
